Remote, hybrid, on site — everyone talks about places. Hardly anyone talks about relationships.
Leading at a distance has long been part of everyday life. And this is precisely where it becomes clear whether connection is part of leadership for you — or just a phrase in the mission statement.

Anyone who aspires to lead effectively must show a genuine interest in people.
And that goes well beyond technical questions and project status.
It does not mean we all have to become best friends — but the truth lies somewhere in between.
Between professional distance and genuine connection.

Distance changes communication — connection needs more than a meeting link.
Genuine connection comes from being present with one another rather than simply being there: listening, clarity, genuine interest.
And yes — this works digitally too. But it takes conscious leadership, not just management on autopilot.

What has changed:

Trust is the new currency — control does not work at a distance.
Results matter more than working hours — yet your team still needs direction.
Empathy is a leadership quality, not a “soft skill”.

👉 If you cannot create connection, you lose people — even when they are sitting in the office.

How do you experience the balancing act between closeness and distance in your leadership?
