Many choose harmony — and pay a high price for it. Because some conflicts do not disappear — they merely become quieter.
And that is exactly where the problem begins.
Leaders who ignore conflicts and sweep them under the carpet gain short-term harmony and lose long-term respect.
I experienced this first-hand in an earlier project: a simmering conflict between two key people went unspoken for weeks.
Nobody wanted to “cause unnecessary unrest”.
What happened? The team withdrew, trust crumbled and collaboration became difficult.
Yet it would have been leadership’s task to make the conflict visible and actively support its resolution.
Because real leadership is not about smoothing the surface — it is about courageously shaping how people work together.
👉 My suggestion:
Do not look away. Do not hope it will resolve itself. Instead, deliberately create space for clarification.
How do you deal with unresolved conflicts in your environment? I look forward to your perspectives.
