Are you living your own goals or someone else’s?

Are you living your own goals or someone else’s?

Often, the goals we pursue are not really our own. We unconsciously adopt them from other people, from people we admire. Yet we often admire precisely what we lack ourselves. Outside influences tell us whom to emulate and which path leads to success. We overlook the fact that this person has entirely different talents and follows a different tune, as Dieter Lange puts it so well. Even as children, we heard phrases such as: “Why don’t you take a leaf out of their book…”

We live in a society of multiple options, where seemingly anything is possible. Yet this abundance of opportunities also carries the risk of losing our bearings, even leading to despair or burnout. The key is to find our own calling rather than simply orienting ourselves towards external role models.

It is time to pause and ask ourselves honestly: are these really my goals? Or am I living according to other people’s expectations? Find your own rhythm, your own tune. That is the only way genuine satisfaction and real success can emerge.

What do you think? Are you on your own path, or are you still marching to someone else’s drum? I look forward to your thoughts in the comments!
