Day one – no second chance to make a first impression

First impressions count. There is no second chance. Particularly in business, that first impression is invaluable. The image others form of us is shaped on day one and has a major influence on future success. Whether it is the first day in a new leadership role, the introduction of a strategy or the start of a new organisation after a reorganisation, day one is a milestone. It requires careful preparation because it lays the foundations for future relationships and success. So prepare for it professionally!

The two most important points for a successful start are:

1. Align expectations.
2. Plan in detail.

A practical example shows how important preparation for day one is. Recently, I again had the opportunity to support a client taking on a new leadership role. Together, we used the time before the official start intensively for conversations and clarifying expectations.

We planned day one almost minute by minute: when would he get up, drive to the office, whom would he speak to first, what would his day look like, and whom would he have lunch with? We thought through each step to ensure he would leave a positive, lasting impression.

Investing time and energy in preparing for the day pays off: my client began his role with confidence and clarity, establishing a strong foundation for his future #Leadership.

Don’t be a “crazy frog”!

Recognise the importance of day one and prepare for it very, very well. There is no second chance to make a first impression.
