Have you overcome your organisation’s inner resistance today?

It is cold in Hamburg this morning—bitterly cold, I would say. Zero degrees, damp, windy, sleet: extremely unpleasant! Ideal running weather clearly looks different.

My inner voice of resistance pipes up: “Stay in here instead. It’s lovely and warm, have another coffee—you can always run tomorrow!”

Do you know that feeling?

Organisational #Change is often no different. “In here”, in the status quo, things are often pleasant. They work! “Out there”, in change, it is much less comfortable and more uncertain. Often there are storms, strong headwinds and cold. “Why change, then?” asks the organisation’s inner voice of resistance.

In my workshops, it often reveals itself when participants say, “Someone ought to…” I then ask: “Who exactly is ‘someone’?”

As in recreational sport, the solution is to replace “Someone ought to…” with “Who does what by when?” and answer the question: “What is the first step?”

My first step this morning? I am putting on my running clothes now and going out into the cold for a run!
