2024 was the year of AI. So why not use artificial intelligence for another important moment of the year — reviewing it and looking ahead? That is exactly what I tried. And here are my partly surprising experiences:
Phase 1: Developing the prompt
Before starting the reflection, I created a tailored prompt together with ChatGPT:
- Which questions are crucial for reviewing the year and looking ahead?
- How do I include areas of life such as work, health and family?
- And: How can ChatGPT “read between the lines” and recognise undiscovered patterns?
I deliberately built in regular feedback from ChatGPT and asked it about anything that stood out. This produced a clear plan that structured the entire process.
Phase 2: Iterative implementation — looking back and ahead
With the finished prompt, I began reflecting:
1️⃣ Looking back: What did I achieve? Where were the challenges? Where do I stand in relation to my North Star and my vision?
2️⃣ Areas of life: How satisfied am I with health, career and family?
3️⃣ Looking ahead: What priorities am I setting for 2025? How do these goals fit my long-term plans?
The best part: This two-stage approach — first developing the prompt, then implementing it iteratively over several days — was incredibly flexible. I could pick up the conversation at any time, ask ChatGPT for summaries and add new thoughts.
ChatGPT was more than just a tool. For me, it was like a container where I could unload loose thoughts. It organised them, made connections and created perspectives I might have missed on my own.
My conclusion:
This approach revolutionised my year-end review. With ChatGPT, I had both structure and a creative sparring partner by my side.
