Execution wins: how leaders can activate the strategy execution turbo easily, but far too rarely do

What makes a good leader? Genuine interest in people and their achievements. The same applies to strategy execution. Where considerable effort goes into developing strategies and preparing glossy presentations, but interest steadily declines from day one of execution, ambitious initiatives grind to a halt. It therefore makes no sense to dismiss regularly following up and asking for results as micromanagement or an outdated obsession with control.

The importance of motivation and recognition

Success and recognition for success are among the most important internal motivators. This is not new: Frederick Herzberg illustrated it in his groundbreaking Harvard Business Review article “One More Time: How Do You Motivate Employees?”

🌟 Recognising and celebrating small successes can make an enormous difference. Recognition acts as a turbocharger for employee motivation.

The path to success: small steps, big impact

Instead of starting with giant steps and eventually discovering that time and energy have been wasted, we should start small and develop momentum that can carry us to the next success, and the next, until we achieve a significant breakthrough.

🔍 A brief conversation about project progress or an appreciative nod for a well-handled task shows that leaders value not only what their teams do but also how and why they do it.

Creating a culture of success

📈 This kind of leadership encourages a positive working environment and improves productivity and creativity. Let us take Herzberg’s advice and create a working culture where every small success counts!
