Why diversity of opinion has limits in leadership

#Diversity matters—not just in terms of origin, gender and skin colour. Above all, I am a great believer in diversity of opinion, especially in leadership teams!

In my view, effective leadership has one clear success factor:

Diverse internally, united externally!

If leaders do not pull together externally, successfully implementing necessary organisational #Change becomes difficult or impossible. I experienced this personally as a #Leader. My coach opened my eyes in that situation and would not let me overlook the obvious out of fear of conflict. Making overdue personnel decisions is not easy, wins you few friends for a while and, looking back, was my hardest and most effective leadership learning experience.

Hamburg’s former First Mayor, Herbert Kurt Weichmann, once said:
“Misplaced tolerance creates false ideas about the limits of what is allowed.”

With that in mind, I wish you a good start to the week and the right sense for balancing diversity, unity and tolerance.
