Anyone who delegates to relieve themselves – without sharing responsibility – is shifting work, not leading.

I often hear: “I’ll hand that over; I don’t have time for it.”

But lack of time is not a free pass to pass tasks down unfiltered. Delegation does not mean: I have better things to do.

It means: I am entrusting you with this task – and supporting you in doing it well.

What genuine delegation needs:

  • Clarity about the goal and responsibility
  • Space for individual approaches
  • Trust in other people’s competence
  • And yes: patience when things are not perfect at first

Leadership does not mean knowing everything or doing everything yourself. It means helping people grow – even if that takes more time initially.

How do you approach delegation? And where do you think things are still too often “dumped rather than entrusted”?
