2 out of 3 transformations in family businesses fail.

Last week, I was sitting with family business owners. Silence in the room. Then one sentence:

‘In our business, it is not the transformation that fails. It is the decision before it.’

That is precisely the problem.

In the same group, nobody knew what their own company should consciously stop doing.

Most discussions revolve around tools, AI and new structures.

The crucial questions are not asked:

→ What do we consciously preserve?

→ What do we consciously give up?

→ What do we build anew?

Anyone who does not answer these three questions regularly is not transforming.

They are reacting.

And reacting means losing control.

Because legacy carries on.

Because there is no room for anything new.

Because direction depends on whoever was last in the room.

Future readiness does not come from programmes. It comes from decisions — written down, dated, and followed through.

❓ What was your hardest decision last year: preserve, give up or build anew?
