Why leaders without power have no impact
Many associate power with control, dominance or even fear. But power is not inherently negative. It is a tool – the only question is how we use it.
Ginny Rometty, former CEO of IBM, describes in her book “Good Power” how power can be used positively: good power means building trust, inspiring others and achieving great things together.
One sentence from her book particularly inspired me: “A leader’s task is to paint reality and give hope.” It is about being authentic, taking responsibility and creating a vision that others want to support.
“Good power” means co-creation. Not pushing people to do something, but inviting them to work together on a future that motivates them. It means nurturing people, not simply demanding results.
The question is: How do you use your power?
My advice: Develop people. Build trust. Inspire. Because power, used correctly, is a key to sustainable success.
