You are still in the old office. Your company has long since moved on.
As long as you work at a single location as managing director, direct leadership works. A morning production round. Short lines of communication. You know what is going on.
Then the second location arrives.
The office stays where it was. So do the routines. Your attention therefore automatically goes to headquarters — not because you decided it should, but simply because you are there.
The new location gets attention when there is time left.
There rarely is.
This is not a failure of leadership. It is a structural problem.
What works through presence at one location immediately breaks down at two.
The leadership task changes fundamentally: away from operational presence in one place, towards steering a network you no longer see every day.
That requires more than different processes. It requires a different governance structure: leadership becomes an architectural task.
Let go of the location. Steer the whole system.
The structure that made you successful will not automatically carry you further.
💬 At what point did your structure stop matching the size of your company?
