What really drives us to change things?
Often it is not fear. It is longing.
For meaning. For impact. For a place where our actions matter.
Henning Beck says: Fear can release energy in the short term – but it is not a state we can sustain indefinitely.
And Dieter Lange puts it succinctly: Love is the death of the ego.
Perhaps it is also longing that quietens our ego – because suddenly something bigger is calling. A shared idea we commit ourselves to. Not because we have to – but because we want to.
This kind of emotional tension is a key lever for effective strategy execution.
A positive vision that truly moves people is one of the seven success factors I described in our playbook.
Because without longing, change often remains nothing more than a process.
What is your vision that stirs something inside?
