Do you know the "underground saboteurs" in your organisation?
Not all resistance is loud. The most dangerous obstacles work quietly — with influence, but without buy-in.
In many change initiatives, some people visibly go along — while blocking things behind the scenes. No violence. But psychological "attacks" on pace, morale and execution.
Here is how to identify them — objectively, with a 3×3 matrix:
- Axis 1: attitude towards/trust in the change → low • medium • high
- Axis 2: influence in the system (not hierarchy!) → small • medium • large
The critical quadrant: low buy-in × high influence. That is where the risk lies.
What to do:
- Map discreetly, within a small circle.
- Clarify the causes: fear, loss, overload, unresolved conflicts.
- Countermeasures: listening, straight talking, concrete involvement, measurable contributions.
One very important point:
The goal is not to judge people — but to create awareness of dynamics that would otherwise remain invisible.
What experience have you had with "underground saboteurs"?
