Trust is good – confidence in people’s abilities makes the difference

Do you trust your colleagues? Or do you also really believe they can do something? 🤔

This subtle but crucial difference can determine whether collaboration succeeds or fails.

Trust means attributing credibility and integrity to people. For example: I would entrust my house or my children to my closest friends without hesitation – because I know they act responsibly.

Confidence in someone’s abilities goes one step further: It is the conviction that they have the skills and capabilities to successfully accomplish a particular task. With my business or company, I would be much more selective, because expertise and entrepreneurial skill matter here.

Successful teams need both: trust as a foundation and confidence in abilities to activate those capabilities. How do you handle this balancing act? Do you develop confidence in your team by sharing responsibility and nurturing capabilities?
