The future begins in the mind – not with technology.
My children think self-driving cars are completely normal.
I tell them:
“You will probably live to be 120.”
They nod.
No doubt.
No scepticism.
Just curiosity.
Then I speak to adults my age.
And immediately hear:
“I can’t imagine that.”
What is going on?
Children have no past to lean on.
Only possibilities to look forward to.
Adults compare things with what came before.
And so they often find new things unrealistic.
Herbert Grönemeyer puts it succinctly:
“Give the children command.
They don’t calculate what they do.”
💡 The difference?
Some people trust the possibilities of the future
more than the experiences of the past.
That sounds simple.
But it is not.
Because the past feels safe.
Familiar.
Controllable.
The future is open.
Uncertain.
Sometimes frightening.
But that is exactly where readiness for the future begins.
Not with technology.
But with mindset.
🔍 The question is not what is possible.
The question is: How open are you to it?
