Two weeks ago, I wrote: supervision starts in 11 days.

It has been here since Sunday.

Supervision under the AI Act is under way. No more announcements. Normal operations are beginning.

The reflex in many leadership teams: delegate it to Legal, tick the box.

That is precisely the mistake.

Because the real question is not legal. It is organisational:

– Who can say today where AI is being used in your company?

– Who decides which use case triggers which obligations?

– And who takes responsibility if the answer to those questions is ‘nobody’?

For context: the high-risk obligations have been postponed (December 2027 and August 2028 respectively). There is no cause for panic.

But transparency and training obligations apply. And once a supervisory authority becomes active, it does not disappear again.

Those who understand AI governance as an operating model gain a two-year head start.

Those who treat it as a compliance task gain time at most.

How is it in your organisation: is there one person with a complete overview of AI use in the company?
