Some start running. Others stand still. Why?

Spencer Johnson's classic "Who Moved My Cheese?" describes four types — and I see them in every transformation project:

Sniff — senses change early. Observes signals before others see them. Your early-warning system.

Scurry — acts immediately. Does not hesitate or analyse forever. Your source of momentum.

Hem — denies the change. "This is unfair! Things will go back to normal." Stays put and waits for everything to return to how it was.

Haw — initially like Hem, then rethinks. Overcomes fear, moves forward, writes down what he learns. Your change champion.

The book's central question:

"What would you do if you weren't afraid?"

What I often see with clients: teams contain all four types. The art lies in not losing the Hems — and not slowing down the Sniffs and Scurrys.

The best leaders regularly ask themselves: where am I clinging to old cheese?

❓ Which type are you most of the time — and which would you like to be?
