Personal responsibility does not grow from appeals – it grows from mindset.

Personal responsibility does not grow from appeals – it grows from mindset.
And from spaces that breathe trust rather than control.
In many organisations, responsibility is “transferred”. Often well intended, in practice this remains a label: new tasks, old structures. What is missing is the space in which personal responsibility can really grow.
A space where questions are welcome. Where mistakes are understood rather than punished. Where leadership does not know everything – but is present.
Because responsibility is not granted. It is enabled.
Through clarity. Through dialogue. And through tolerating uncertainty – on both sides.
What does that mean for leadership in practice?
- Not more control. More confidence in others.
- Not simply delegating, but opening up the framework.
You cannot transfer responsibility – only enable it.
I am interested:
What has enabled – or prevented – spaces for genuine personal responsibility in your experience?
