The AI training obligation has been in force for 17 months.
Enforcement begins in 11 days.
Most companies are only noticing now.
Since 2 February 2025, Article 4 of the EU AI Act has required companies to demonstrably train employees who work with AI. Enforcement by national market surveillance authorities begins on 2 August 2026. Explicitly including AI literacy.
The maximum fine reaches €35 million or 7% of worldwide annual turnover. Article 4 has no separate fining provision. A reason to relax? No. Without evidence, you are empty-handed in every inspection and every liability question.
The real point goes deeper: treating Article 4 as paperwork wastes the most affordable lever for AI effectiveness. The same training that provides evidence determines whether AI makes an impact in everyday work.
Three steps for this week:
1️⃣ Take stock: who uses which AI systems for what today?
2️⃣ A role-based training concept instead of a one-size-fits-all webinar.
3️⃣ Documentation: who was trained in what, and when?
Compliance is the by-product. Competence is the return.
Is your training evidence ready, or are you still hoping?
